Lambs

Lambs! We have lambs! Finally, the starter flock of 2011 has grown to adulthood and are now producing lambs of their own. Kismet delivered on February 23, 2013.  On her own and without human assistance.  I went out early that Saturday morning to discover a little ram and a little ewe. She had each one tucked underneath a separate heat lamp.  The little ram, Asher, well on his way to wetherdom, is a very nice badger-faced, just like his mom.  He won't be kept for breeding, but for fleece production. And the little ewe, Arabela -  who we'd thought was black at birth - is actually turning out to be a very beautiful moorit brown.  Kismet is a wonderful mother. Just over two weeks old, the lambs have out-grown their first sweatshirt-sleeve-coats and will be moved into their first Rocky's Sheepsuits this week.  Asher is shyer like his mother, but Arabela is extremely sociable and loves humans. She and Ada are major buddies and play together like a couple of kids.
We're now awaiting Katrina's first delivery - which should be any day now.  Then Lola and Lobelia, who aren't due until May. New life is so exciting - especially when deliveries go well. So far the girls are being true to their breed - built for easy delivery and great parenting - Romeldale CVM's ... even more reason to love you.
