Peaches.

Peach production was out of control this year. There were so many peaches on our two trees, that almost every branch broke off and laid over onto the ground. As a result everyone is filling their freezer and pantry with sliced peaches, peach pie filling, peach preserves and peach butter.  Peach cake and peach bread send amazing wafts as they bake in ovens.  Peach cobbler crunches with every fresh bite. Because the past two years have had no peach production due to late freezes and frosts, we feel truly blessed with this over abundance - even as our hands cramp up from peeling and slicing each little ball of orange, yellow and red. This morning's crisp and chill air - middle 40's - reminds me that in another month or two, when all the fruit trees and garden rows are bare, we will be so appreciative of the hard work that was put into the harvesting and preserving of this most delicious fare.
