Rain

Rain. Yes, the wet stuff from the sky. It's currently falling and hitting the ground.  The very dry and parched ground. Please continue for inches of moisture, wet stuff falling from the sky.

I got some electric fence up before the sky darkened and the wind picked up. Its a cold rain today. Winter jacket and stocking cap sort of day. But, its RAINING. So, I won't complain.

March/April lambing is done.  We had all successful deliveries. Whew.  A great relief after having lost three - all black - last year.  We had begun to think we had a genetic issue going on.  We don't.  Four of the five lambs are black. Kismet, my favorite, is hitting three for three in delivering moorit lambs.  Had a single birth moorit ewe lamb this year.  I think the Kismet/Korinth combination is a moorit combination. Happy.

Although we'd put all of the adult ewes with Korinth the last weekend in October, Lannie and Lobelia were still exhibiting heat behavior the end of December.  At shearing, in March, neither appeared bred.  On April 5th, we put them back in with Korinth.  I guess we'll see what happens.  Lannie has never been bred before and Lobelia was one of the stillbirths last year - four months into her pregnancy.

We have some amazing fleeces again and are excited about getting them in the shows.  I'm going to enter different fleeces this year in all categories.  We know Kismet and Lola are winners - they've shown us this in the past two years.  I decided its time to give some of the others a shot at it, too.

In the meantime, we need this cold windy rain.  We need days of this wet stuff that falls from the sky.  The pastures and electric fenced grazing areas will only benefit from the rain.  If the grazing is good, the fleece is good, and that's what it's all about, isn't it? Perfect fleece .... and the healthy sheep who produce it.
