True Sign of August

A true sign of August - spider webs everywhere!!! What look like white clumps of Queen Annes Lace scattered all over the yard, are actually tightly woven fine webs, collecting morning dew.  Between every pair of clothespin on the clothesline, web designs connect them, weaving their sticky trap all the way down the line. And the garden spiders, big as quarters, have webs on top of webs - thick - with their telltale white criss-cross center perch. We find them between the blackberries, blocking pathways. Keeping the tomatoes trapped inside their tomato cages. Gently, with a small stick or large piece of grass, we move the webs aside to retrieve our harvest, only to find the entire web returned later, the yellow, black and white spider perched center stage again, waiting to capture its harvest.
