Wake Up Call

My first clue should have been the fact that the sun was setting south of Hwy. 44, instead of on the north side. And seeing the flocks of geese crisscrossing the sky.  And the fact that all of the beans are harvested around me, along with most of the corn. The signs have been there, but I tried to ignore them.  Autumn has been kind to us, thus far, so the shocker of yesterday's bitterly cold winds and below freezing night took me by surprise. Then finding ice in the water tanks this morning.  Ouch! Winter really is on its way, isn't it? My stress level just went up a couple of notches .... horse's new stall needs to be finished  ... and a shed for Yuri and Korinth built in the middle pasture ... the bee's hives need to be wrapped in insulation ... and then, there are the walls in the barn that I still  need cover with plywood (to cut down on those horrid chilly drafts) .... Yes, these are projects that I've put off repeatedly. But can you blame me? Most of September was in the 80's. The first half of October the same. And didn't the Farmer's Almanac say it was going to be a mild winter?  I should have weeks to get these projects done, right? Maybe not.  Ahhh ... where did 2011 go?
